For a small child, celebrating a birthday in a shelter or residential care facility can be a lonely and depressing experience. Often the day goes unnoticed and wishes unfulfilled. Thanks to the generosity of San Diego Quarterback Philip Rivers' Rivers of Hope Foundation, children waiting for adoption receive a birthday gift card on their special day.  The gift not only gives the children a chance to pick out their own special gift, but it also sends a message that someone cares, and remembers.

• In 2009, Promises2Kids distributed $9,575 in gift cards to 383 foster children in San Diego County.
